09- Planning: Script & Storyboard for trailer 2

I wanted the second trailer to be a lot shorter and less visual than the first, to make it scarier.

This was my initial draft of the script:

This trailer will be closer to 30s than the other.

This trailer will be made with mainly the voice over on a black screen, then a few cuts of images of whatever is being described.

08- Planning: Magazine Advertisement

I started with a mock up for the magazine advertisement. I used the things I had learned from my survey and my research in order to do this. This inlcuded:
  • Directly Connecting with the audience
  • Features something main to the story (Character, Object etc.)
  • Show of the main theme of the game easily

This is the first basic mock up I made:

07- Planning: Game Cover & Title

I used some of the questions from my survey, along with my research to start a mock up version of game cover. This was my first basic mock up:

I needed to think of a title next.

I set up a Poll using PollCode:  http://poll.pollcode.com/65176655_result?v

After my poll was up for a few days, these were the results:

I was glad Afraid of the Dark was chosen as that was my preferred name.

I next made a second mock up:

I preferred this mock up to my last one.

Using the last mockup of the girls face, I made a final mockup of my front cover.

05- Planning: Script and Storyboard for Trailer 1

I starting playing around with ideas for my first trailer. I wanted it to be like a teaser trailer, not revealing too much. I used some of the ideas from my survey to help make it. This included:
  • Features main character
  • Action
  • Tells you a little about the story without revealing too much.

This was my first draft of the trailer:

After a few days of making changes, this was the new draft:

I made a storyboard of my trailer next.

Doing this made me realise how different the time scale was- while my trailer was meant to be nearer to 30 seconds, my storyboard made it up to 50. I had to decide whether I wanted to cut it down, or make this the longer of the two trailers.

04- Research: Game Trailer

I knew almost straight away that the only way I could create a videogame trailer was by making it live action. Because of this, I solely looked at live action trailers.

This is my research into the codes and conventions of a videogame trailer:

These are the links to each of my trailers featured:

Next, I used my survey to help me see what people expect from a videogame trailer. This is what I found out that people want:

  • Information about the game
  • Show gameplay
  • Character introduction
  • Action packed
  • Showing the storyline
  • Builds an anticipation for the game
  • Good music to go with it.

03- Research: Magazine Advertisement

Game Magazine Advertisement

The first thing I did towards making a magazine advertisment was make a Prezzi about the codes and conventions of a magazine advertisement for a videogame:

Next, I used a focus group to help me understand what is expected from a videogame advertisement. This is what I found out:

  • Should show you what the game is about
  • Should feature the main character
  • Should look exiting and make you want to play it
  • Include the audience in some way.

02- Research: Game Cover

 Game Cover Research.

The first part of research I did to make my videogame cover was to find out the codes and conventions. I did this in a Prezzi:

Next, I made a survey to use as my Focus Group. In the survey, these are the stats I found out about VideoGame Cover:

Some of the key things I learned from this survey are:

  •  People would like to see main characters on the cover
  • People would like to see backgrounds that fit the storyline
  • People would like to see something that tells you something about the games story
  • People would like to see something that is eye catching
  • A large font or bold font will catch the audiences eye best
  • An artistic style is eye-catching
